About the WPBA
Western Port Basketball Association prides itself on being one of the most progressive basketball associations on the Mornington Peninsula as we strive for excellence. We hold family values in high regard, ensuring we offer all our members the strongest opportunities at all levels of basketball including fair competitions and development opportunities for a wide range of ages and skill level.
Western Port Basketball Representative Program
Western Port Steelers has seen some huge growth in recent years, where in 2017 we have 28 Junior Steeler teams competing in the Melbourne United Victorian Junior Basketball league (MUVJBL). In Western Port’s pathway we also have 4 teams competing in the Big V, Division 1 Women, Division 1 Men & a Youth League 2 Men & Women’s
The Big V is the senior basketball league in Victoria comprising of 141 semi-professional sides across 12 competitions. These competitions comprise of both genders, and incorporate three levels of senior competition (men), three levels for women and youth leagues (23 & Under)
Western Port Steelers also offers a pathway through our connection with Basketball Victoria Country where during the Summer months we enter teams (Men & Women) in the Senior Competition of the Country Basketball League, we use this as a chance to bridge the gap between junior and senior basketball.
DOMESTIC AT WPBA
The WPBA has an ever growing domestic competition running two seasons per year (Summer: October – March and Winter: April – September) with all age groups being represented from U8’s through to Seniors including a Senior Mixed competition and Mid-Week ladies (Day Comp).
Close to 3,000 members participate weekly in our competitions throughout the year.
ALL ABILITIES PROGRAM
Playing basketball gives people with disabilities an opportunity to develop greater confidence, strength and skills, make new friends and learn about teamwork. The emphasis is on creating a supportive, social, inclusive and fun environment.
The Western Port All Abilities Basketball competition was established over 18 years ago and has been very successful for all ages and disabilities. The competition is played on Thursday evenings at Somerville Recreation Centre from 5pm – 6.30pm.
