Jail House Grill

The Jail House Grill continues a 140 year tradition by offering fine food and beverage to locals and travellers alike. The building on Wellington St, Launceston was constructed in the mid 1800’s using handmade convict bricks from the local “brickfields” some 500 meters away. The design is typical of a Victorian Georgian Inn or Public House of the era. Proudly registered with the Tasmanian Heritage Council, the building where the Jail House Grill is, is regarded as important to the Launceston community’s sense of place. It was originally known as the Prince of Wales.

The Jail House Grill is an established restaurant in Launceston famous for Great Steaks, Great Wine, Great Atmosphere, Great Menu and Great Functions!

The intensive menu provides many choices including some seafood, chicken and burgers and the salad bar is a popular option, as well; packed with a variation of salads, the much talked-about stir fry vegetables and sundry accompaniments. Kids are welcome and the under 12’s have their own children’s menu with some kids signature favourites such as burgers, chips and even steak for those who prefer that. Visit our website for more details about the menu.

Booking is strongly advised as we are often fully-booked but we will always try to find you a table, should one be available in the following or previous sitting on that day.
